A swimming pool is a centrepiece for everyone in summer. But lack of maintenance can make a sparkling swimming pool smelly, dirty, and just plain gross. Unfortunately, pool maintenance is not as fun as swimming and splashing, but incorporating the right technique can make it a breeze that allows pool owners to quickly get back to enjoying the water. In this article, we will talk about general Pool Maintenance which will help you not only enjoy the pool more but also make the pool, and its equipment lasts a long year to year.
Basic swimming Pool Maintenance
Scrubbing the vinyl walls, cleaning the water, keeping filters maintained, and clearing the area around the swimming pool are part of basic swimming pool cleaning. Use the following steps to make cleaning a swimming pool an easy task.
- Skim the Surface
Every day, debris accumulates on the swimming pool’s surface. Elimination of debris keeps the water fresh and allows the pool owner to deep clean less frequently. To remove the debris, we need to attach the skimmer net to a telescopic pole and sweep it across the swimming pool’s surface. Shake debris onto the ground before putting the net back into the water, when the net gets dirty. Regularly skimming the water will prevent debris from sinking to the bottom of the pool.
- Brush the pool walls
To remove dirt, chemical residue, and potential algae growth, the walls of the swimming pool need to be scrubbed. Take a telescopic pole and attach the pool brush and brush the swimming pool walls, corners, and ladder. Pool owners need to give extra attention to tight spaces where algae could grow easily. It pushes algae and dirt into the water, making it easier for pool owners to remove chemicals or pool vacuum.
- Vacuum the Floor
Connect the hose and vacuum head to the telescopic pole to clear debris from the bottom of the swimming pool. Lower the vacuum to the bottom of the pool and push the other end of the hose against a jet, in order to eliminate air from the system. Remove the skimmer inlet from the strainer basket and plug the vacuum hose into the suction port at the bottom of the skimmer. Move the head over the entire floor of the swimming pool to remove settled dirt and debris. Stirring up the debris that will settle back to the bottom of the swimming pool. Once the cleaning is done, turn the filtration system back on to remove anything missed.
- Clean the Filter
Cleaning of the swimming pool is incomplete if you ignore the filter. To circulate the water effectively, we need to clean the filters a lot more often. A swimming pool can have a sand filter, cartridge filter, or DE filter. All three involves different cleaning methods.
Backwashing Swimming Pool FilterIt is the process of running the swimming pool pump backwards to flush out the system. Although DE and Sand filters can be back washed for a quick clean but still must be cleaned thoroughly once or twice a year. To do that, you need to turn off the filter and connect the backwash hose to the filter’s waste part. Shift the valve to the backwash. Power on the filter for about 2 minutes. Now Power off the system and set the valve to filter.
