How to Clean a Line Painting Machine

Published on February 5, 2022

Cleaning the line painting machine is an essential task. A contractor must complete this task in order to maintain the quality of the machine. A contractor has to follow various steps like daily cleaning, weekly maintenance for both preserving the line painting machine and ensuring the working of a quality product. By applying the following steps, we will find that our Line Painting Machine works at its optimum level, operating more efficiently, and lasting longer.

Requirement

To start the cleaning process, we need three 5-gallon buckets. One bucket filled with our coating, one bucket filled with water, and one empty bucket for waste material. To ensure proper cleaning, we need to siphon the freshwater through the entire system into a separate waste bucket.

We also require a proper cleaning solution based on the Type of Paint we used. We need to use mineral spirits/paint thinner for oil-based coatings and soapy warm water for latex-based coatings. Many coatings are available on the market, but we need to use the appropriate cleaning agent that matches the coatings we used.

Cleaning the equipment

Once we have the proper solutions available, we can proceed to clean the Line Painting Machine. We flush the cleaning agent through the fluid section, gun, hose, and tip until it gets clean. After the proper pressure relief procedure, we need to place the siphon tube into a bucket of clean water, remove the tip and tip guard from the gun, and return the hose into the waste bucket. Then move the spray/prime valve to PRIME and wait 10 seconds, pull the gun trigger against the side of the metal paint bucket, move the spray/prime valve to SPRAY and then slowly increase the psi until all of the coatings is sprayed back into the coating bucket.  Once the coating starts to thin out, we need to move the gun to the waste bucket and continue to spray until clear solvent or water is coming out of the gun. Once we run 5 gallons of water and then 5 gallons of Liquid Shield and water mixture through the Line Painting Machine, it will be cleaned.

Take out the excess product from the Line Painting Machine and store it in another container, we will need to remove various parts of the Painting Machine. We need to remove the fan caps and gun shrouds from the air atomized equipment at the end of each daily use. We can also clean those with soap and water for waterborne paints and with MEK for solvent-based products.

Likewise, for an airless painting machine, we need to remove the tip and tip guard clean them with a brush and use the appropriate cleaning agent. If the paint gets dried and water and soap may not clean it, use a mixture of 75 per cent water and 25 per cent Methanol to brush clean dried waterborne paint.
